Purchased by the excellent Rioja house of La Rioja Alta in 1988, Lagar del Fornelos, producer of Lagar de Cervera is an important estate with significant vineyard holdings in the southern part of the Rias Baixas. This DO in the northwestern corner of Spain is now established as the home of Spain's best white wine terroirs, with porous soils, adequate rainfall and a cool maritime climate. In addition, the region is blessed with a genuinely exciting indigenous white grape, the Albarino, a grape which produces wines with an intensity of aroma and concentration of fruit reminiscent of the best dry Rieslings.
